If you are visiting the Westfjords of Iceland, then the chances are you will be visiting the Súðavíkurhreppur municipality. One of the largest Westfjords municipalities by size at 760m2, Súðavíkurhreppur lies between Ísafjörður city to the West and Hólmavík to the East, starting at the bottom of Ísafjörður fjord. The main road 61 passes through our entire region and you must drive through 8 fjords, more than any other area of the Westfjords on your journey, so we truly put the “fjords” in your Westfjords adventure.
Although large in size our municipality has a low population of around 200 individuals, children 15 years old and under make up 20% of this giving the area and especially Súðavík village a strong family feel amidst the isolation of our beckoning fjords.
